Two weeks to go and over 1400 delegates already registered to attend the SACSC’s Congress in Durban

Over 1400 leading executives and professionals in the burgeoning local and international shopping centre and retail industry have already signed up as delegates to attend the South African Council of Shopping Centres’ (SACSC) 19th Annual Congress in Durban in two weeks’ time.
The congress which rotates between South Africa’s three largest cities, is the premier annual shopping centre and retail industry event on the African continent. This year’s event will take place from 30 September to 2 October at Durban’s International Convention Centre.
“With over 1400 registered delegates currently, and bookings coming in thick and fast daily, we are set to host another milestone SACSC Congress this year. It is the sector’s flagship event and the high bookings are a clear indication that it is a must attend gathering for the who’s who of the retail and shopping centre industry,” says Amanda Stops, CEO of SACSC.
Property Finance at Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking (NCIB) is the main sponsor of the SACSC Congress again this year. Stops says that this further illustrates the preeminent profile of the event.
“We thank Nedbank for their continued backing, and especially the strong support shown by industry leaders and professionals to attend the SACSC’s 19th Annual Congress in Durban. We have an excellent line-up of local and international speakers, a top-notch exhibition that is already our biggest ever with 103 stands; and, and a spectacular themed gala dinner amongst other highlights as part of the 2015 Congress,” she adds.
Robin Lockhart-Ross, Managing Executive: Property Finance at NCIB, comments: “The longevity of this annual event bears testament to its relevance in the retail and shopping centre industry. Now in its 19th year – and the third for Nedbank as sole sponsor – we are again pleased by the calibre of the speakers and range of topics identified for this year’s Congress.”
Lockhart-Ross adds: “As leaders in commercial property finance, our support to the retail industry goes beyond just providing finance to help realise property opportunities – we also hope to play a role in unlocking a holistic understanding of the sector by supporting industry platforms such as the SACSC Congress.”
Simplify – clarity in chaos, is the theme of this year’s congress. Stops says in-line with this, the SACSC is pleased to have secured Mike Kercheval, President and CEO of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), to speak at the SACSC Congress. Kercheval’s talk is titled “Keeping it Simple”, and he will speak about his learnings having been at the helm of the ICSC since 2001.
New speakers and additions to the line-up at this year’s congress include Chris Sanderson, Co-Founder of The Future Laboratory; Luke Roberts, Director of Integrated Retail at The Walt Disney Company; Peter Cheales, Founder of HelloPeter.com; noted South African singer songwriter Johnny Clegg, who will be the special guest at the congress lunch on the opening day; as well as a special panel on Turkish retail, following the SACSC’s 2015 international tour to Turkey in August.
Keynote speakers already announced for the congress include Rohit Talwar, Futurist and Strategic Advisor at London-based Fast Future; Greg McKeown, the New York Times best-selling author of ‘Essentialism’; Patrick Bruce, Director of The Oval Group; and, John Genovese, President of GENCO Realty Group, who previously headed Westfield Development and oversaw the World Trade Center redevelopment in New York.
Leading South African broadcaster, Derek Watts, will be the MC at the power-packed three-day SACSC Congress. Other highlights at the event include the announcement of the SACSC Pioneer and Lifetime Achievement Awards, as well as winners in the SACSC’s coveted annual Retail Design and Development Awards.
“Besides providing access to the latest thinking, innovation and information about shopping centre and retail trends in South Africa and across the globe from the industry’s brightest minds, the SACSC Congress is our mainstay networking event. It is the biggest retail property event on the region’s calendar,” says Stops.
“The 19th annual SACSC Congress in Durban is now just around the corner, and we are looking forward to hosting another great event. We have an excellent programme that covers all facets of our industry. This year’s event is certainly not to be missed,” she concludes.
